Our Christmas with a Twist!

Celebrating Christmas in Honduras was different. I'm so use to the traditions of the holidays that I think I may have forgot just a little why we really set this time apart once a year. Yes, I know it is to celebrate the birth of my savior Jesus Christ. However, for me this year I believe my Father wanted me to see and experience a little more than the gift, but the root behind the gift He gave.

I asked one of the Pastors how he celebrates Christmas with his family. What did you eat? What did you buy your children? Just your traditional questions you would ask someone. He said, "I have Jesus in my heart and I am happy. People without Jesus in their heart are happy for the gift, but are still sad. If I buy a gift for my children it will be shoes or clothes, things they need, but otherwise we all are together doing things as a family and having fun." Wow, the words he said touched my heart.

I have viewed Christmas as a time, once a year, to bless friends and family with a gift or gifts. I remember even putting money back every month to celebrate this special day and not go in debt. It was nice this year not having to focus on the gift and the concerns of if they will like it or if it will fit. I was able to focus on the time I spent with my family and the love we shared with each other.

We blessed ourselves with a gift to each other that was less than $30 each and went Ziplining a few days before Christmas. The love and memories I have of this Christmas is priceless. Give your love year round. Do it unexpectedly and unknowingly with a small token of your efforts. Cookies to a neighbor, cup of coffee to a co-worker, or maybe breakfast in bed for your child. If we all just LOVE one, think of how many we can touch.
