Have you ever been involved in something that seems like you haven’t even scratched the surface and wonder when you will see the fruits, but then the end results are wonderful? I remember one time I decided to sponge paint my daughter’s bedroom years ago with a little sponge. Constantly, I was watching over ever little detail to make sure that it looked even and pleasing to the eye. What seemed like months may have taken a couple of days. Yes, there was pain in the process, but once it was completed and her furniture put back in place I was able to enjoy the fruits of my hard labor. Well, we are not painting another room here in Honduras, but we are bringing change to a community in the mountains of Honduras. There is such a vision and passion in our hearts that is forever burning. There isn’t a day that doesn’t go by that I am pinching myself. Seeing God opening up doors and we are not talking about ones that you can barely squeeze by, they are huge double doors!! This vision is one that will be years of work and labor, but I can’t wait to see the fruit that will be coming forth. This month we were able to get so much headway. Sister Sarah Davis visited from Alabama to help us establish the reading program in the mountains for adults. Illiteracy is approximately 80% to 90% | in this area. It is very disheartening to see adults that can’t read. It brings such bondage in their lives and doesn't allow them to advance forward and pushes them into deep poverty. As some of you may know, we are developing a piece of property in La Laguna to build a church. One of my greatest desires was to have my pastor, Jimmy Squires, walk the land. I wanted to have his insight and heart on the matter. So, we set up a transient to survey the land to find the exact spot to build the church. It brought much joy in my heart to have him there, my father in the faith giving his approval of God’s work at hand. There is much work, but I can tell you, God’s mighty strength is ever present. He is leading my wife and me as we keeping taking steps forward. We patiently wait upon him and only make decisions when he speaks. It truly has been a joy pioneering this new work. God has given Nancy and me precious people to be there with us; showing, leading, guiding, and comforting. Shawn Paul Reading Program Photo |
