The Robertsons of A&E’s Duck Dynasty are expanding their outreach into churches withFaith Commander: Living Five Values From the Parables of Jesus, a new curriculum to be published by Zondervan. Korie Robertson and her mother, Chrys Howard, created the five-week experience for all ages. Releasing in May, the curriculum focuses on five themes found in the parables of Jesus: faith, forgiveness, obedience, prayer and kindness. The program creates a churchwide experience for children to adult. “With the Faith Commander curriculum, we took some commonly found themes that the show Duck Dynasty actually teaches,” says Korie Robertson, wife of Duck Commander’s CEO Willie Robertson. “We use these, not in a preaching sort of way, but really the kind of way that shows how we live our lives and the way our family works. This faith is behind who we are as a family and what keeps us together and strong.” “We chose the parables of Jesus because sometimes they are not always studied like they should be,” says Howard. “God put those in the Bible for us to learn from. Willie, Phil, Alan and, well, all the guys are great storytellers. In Faith Commander, they explain the parables as stories to bring people closer to God. We really believe that this is going to benefit the entire church family—kids, adults and teens. It’s something families can all study together just like they watch the TV show together.” Each resource includes a book and DVD with accompanying Robertson family stories. The adult curriculum features Phil, Alan, Willie, Jase, Jep and Si, while the teen curriculum hosts John Luke, Sadie, Will, Reed and Cole Robertson. The five-week children’s curriculum is only available on DVD-ROM and also includes “Willie’s Redneck Rodeo,” a five-day bonus Vacation Bible School program. In addition, Faith Commander provides pastors with free sermons and other promotional resources. One of the greatest gifts to have in your life is your pastor. I can’t tell it enough to anybody I get into a conversation with about the power of having your pastor involved in your life. Eph. 4-11 declares that they are gifts that Jesus gave the church. I think that so many people in the body of Christ limits this gift and never truly sees who they are in their lives. My family and I have been so blessed to have Pastors Jimmy and Marty Squires as our pastors. We have been with them since 1990, short time of separation in the 90’s while living in Iowa, but still connected. Our relationship was God ordained from the beginning. I will never forget the day I gave my life to Christ in Pastor Jimmy’s office. Just this month Pastor Jimmy came and visited us. We can’t express to you how refreshing it was to have him here. We were busy showing him all the in’s and out’s of what God was doing here in Copan Ruinas. Asking him questions after questions gaining and gleaning any possible wisdom from him to prevent any future mishaps. He made a few corrections and showed us many things to consider, but I feel like we got a good bill of health from him. Words can’t express our gratitude to him, Pastor Marty, and Abundant Life church for what they have and are doing in our lives. Thank you so much for your love, support, guidance, and prayers. Shawn Paul What I took for granted in the USA is worth so much value here in the mountains of Honduras. If I had to do my moving preparations all over again, I would have done a few things differently. The clothes and shoes that were left over from our garage sales would have been crated and slowly brought down and distributed into the mountains of Honduras. There is nothing more gratifying than giving a child with nothing to wear something to wear. A blessed lady, Judy Baggett, donated a few outfits for the children to Sarah Davis to bring and pass out. One boy stood and watched a few children receive new clothes and decided he wasn't going to be left out. His determination to get my attention reminded me of the woman with the issue of blood. He came and stood right in front of me with his arms raised up ready for me to remove his dirty torn and too small shirt to receive a new shirt with shorts. His smile reminded me of the scripture Matthew 25:34-36. “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me." Sarah and I got to hand out clothes and some candy to the families for a short time before going to the next community. Within that time I notice a few needs that I'm going to believe God to fulfill. Shoes, clothes, and parasite pills for the 80 families in this community. I can't do this alone, contact me if you want to be a part. It would be a matter of gathering clothes and getting them to the teams that will be coming down here to do mission work in our area. Nancy Paul nancy@morningstarmissions.org After teaching in a bilingual school here in Copan Ruinas for almost two months now, my determination only grows. I want more than anything for my students to comprehend and excel in what I teach them. However, it's not as easy teaching students curriculum in a language that is not their first. I always wonder if they are really grasping what I am teaching. This past week I was able to see if they were or weren't. At the end of each of bimester the students have to take final exams over everything they learned in that time period. As I prepared my study guide and tests for my students I based it off of how my final exams were in the U.S. when I was in school. Therefore, I made my tests long and pretty difficult, which is how I think final exams should be. When other teachers looked at my tests they said it was really long and looked hard, my friend even said I was crazy because it seemed way too hard. Even through the doubts of others I had faith in my students. Before the tests my students and I prayed together to have God help them remember everything they learned and to push toward excellence. Now, that the exams are over I can proudly say my students passed every exam they had! They had six tests of mine to take in different subjects. Sometimes I was so happy grading them my eyes teared up. Being a teacher it means the world when you know you're making a difference in a child's life. I am extremely proud of them, I can't express it enough! Now, it's a new bimester with new material. I believe creativity is definitely essential when you are teaching students new things in a second language to them. However, being creative sometimes cost money. The other day I received a phone call from my youth leader in the U.S. with some great news. She continued to tell me that the youth group wanted to support me here! I can't explain how grateful I am and how it was the right time to receive this news! Thank you to anyone who has helped me or has gave me encouragement, it really means a lot and keeps me going!
